home. His advocate helped him to move to a flat of his own
near his family. Ray was supported to get a Direct Payment so
that he could employ his own staff. He is doing more of the
things he enjoys and feels much more in control.
Hettie wanted to stay living in
her own home, but was finding it increasingly difficult to
manage. Hettie's advocate enabled her express her views to
Social Services and helped to arrange enough support so that
Hettie could remain living independently.

to find mainstream adult education classes, work at a farm and
the support she needed to do these things.

G.P. that Jordan could not have his cataracts treated as
Jordan could not give consent.

make sure that issues of consent were made clear and that
Jordan had the support he needed so the operation could
happen.
Frederick lived with three other
people in a small group home. There was an argument about care
costs and Frederick was told he had to leave.
Frederick's citizen advocate
helped him to look at the choices given by the local
authority. They found that these would not meet Frederick's
care needs.
The advocate spoke up for
Frederick's right to have decisions based on his needs and to
have his choices listened to. The local authority and provider
then made an agreement, so Frederick could stay in the house
he wanted to.
